Little Entrepreneurs!

Are You Cut Out to Be The Boss?

One of the most commonly asked questions we get is “Do I have what it takes to be my own boss, and how can I know for sure?” I’ll tell you, the answer is less about whether or not you are “cut out” for something, and more about “how bad do you want it?” As the great inventor Thomas Edison once said, “We often miss opportunity because it’s dressed in overalls and looks like work.” There isn’t a whole lot that you can’t accomplish with good old fashioned hard work and determination. That being said, there are a few things you must be willing to do if you want to successfully go from working for the man, to working for YOURSELF. Let’s talk about them:

It Takes Passion

You know that kid who comes up with every idea in the book to make a couple bucks over the summer?  The one who starts-up a lemonade stand, wants to wash your car and mow your lawn, or maybe has their own baby-sitting empire?  Well, more likely than not, it is that kid who will grow up to become an entrepreneur. Why? They have a deep rooted desire to be their own boss.

They also share a few common traits. They’re confidant in their ideas, risk takers so to speak. Like everyone else, they too, are embarrassed to fail, but not so much that it stops them from at least trying to carry out their ideas. They’re hard workers with a relentless drive to see their ideas through to completion. Is that you? Are you nodding your head? Even if you weren’t that kid, but you share that same passion for being your own boss then it’s quite possible you have what it takes.

It Takes Hard Work & Commitment

Take a look at any truly successful business owner you know, and I’ll guarantee you it took a huge amount of work for them to get where they are today. There are no short-cuts to becoming a home business owner. If you are going to be your own boss you’ve got to be willing to put in the elbow grease, period. It takes commitment. Be willing to fail, and learn from that failure. There are valuable life lessons to be learned with every mistake.

Be open to learning new things, and learning how to work smarter. If you aren’t open to change and willing to adapt to whatever life throws your way, then you’re going to have an awful hard time being the boss. Even if you find the best business opportunity out there paired with a super solid plan, you must be willing to do a little quick thinking and improvisation.

It Takes Having a Plan

Whether you have your own business plan that you would like to implement, or you want to hit the ground running with a great MLM or Network Marketing opportunity, you have to have a plan. What’s your objective and how are you going to achieve it? Start by answering those questions. Half of the battle is knowing what you want to do, the other half is sticking to it when the going gets rough. Having a plan will make it easier. Write down your goals; formulate a step-by-step way to achieve them.

It’s probably not the best idea to quit your day job right off the bat either, but the good news is, you don’t have to in order to get started. Look for opportunities to start building your business outside of your normal work hours. While having a plan is important, don’t think you have to have everything 100% figured out before you go to work. That’s a sure fire way to never leave the gate. Once you’ve got a general idea of what you’re going to do and how you’re going to do it, dive right in. Start running and never look back.

Becoming your own boss may be the most challenging thing you’ve ever undertaken, but chances are it will be the most rewarding too. If you know you have what it takes, don’t doubt yourself. Get out there and make it happen!  Be The Boss!
